Enough is enough

June 28, 2017

#NewFIFANow welcomes the release of the Garcia Report, something which we have been calling for since our establishment in January 2015.

The report goes to the heart of the integrity of the game worldwide. It is an indictment on those around the world who are custodians of the game, who should be protecting and advancing it.

The report details a deeply rotten culture within FIFA, most of the bidding nations, and the decision-making process.

We now call on FIFA to run the vote for both 2018 and 2022 again as a step in helping to restore confidence and trust in the way world football is administered.

We call on the governments of the bidding nations involved in 2018/2022 to join with US and Swiss authorities to conduct appropriate, legal investigations into the activities of their football associations in respect of their national bids.

We applaud the US and Swiss authorities for their continuing work.

The game’s players, fans, coaches, referees, volunteers, decent administrators, sponsors and governments around the world should now be demanding real action and genuine reform.

The decisions and actions of the new FIFA President, Secretary-General and FIFA Council to date give no confidence that FIFA has the capacity to implement the necessary change with existing personnel and resources.

We reiterate our long-held view that the only effective way for the deeply rotten culture within FIFA to be changed is for independent, external reform of the organisation from top-to-bottom, and across the six confederations and into every football association.
