Hi
Like many people around the world, I love football – but I abhor how FIFA conducts its business and the World Cup. I am worried that in front of my eyes the World Cup is changing into something that I can’t, in good conscience, stay quiet about. It is becoming the Hypocrisy World Cup. It is being built on the back of countless human rights abuses, as migrant workers in Qatar are forced to work in desperate conditions. In fact, more will die delivering the World Cup than players will play in it. But to FIFA, these lives count for nothing. They are turning a blind eye as this tragedy unfolds. As a company, you respect workers’ rights and have pledged to ensure they are upheld for all workers your business touches. Your own code of business ethics requires your dealings to be based on integrity. As a sponsor, you make the World Cup happen. You are responsible for what is happening in your name. It’s time to make your influence felt. I ask you to support #NewFIFANow’s campaign for FIFA reform. I ask you to make a public statement condemning the corruption within FIFA that is having an impact on human rights abuses in Qatar. I ask you to clean up the Hypocrisy World Cup. In short, I ask nothing more but for you to live by your principles. For the game, for the world. Yours sincerely |
