Candidates' forum to be broadcast live
January 21, 2016
The Brussels forum on the future of FIFA co-convened by the European Parliament and #NewFIFANow is to be broadcast LIVE on ESPN around the world.
The forum, at which FIFA presidential candidates have been invited to present their platform and respond to questions from MEPs and others, is co-hosted by MEPs Marc Tarabella, Ivo Belet, Santiago Fisas Ayxelà and Emma McClarkin, as well as British MP Damian Collins, co-founder of #NewFIFANow.
The candidates attending the forum are Prince Ali of Jordan, Jerome Champagne and ‘Tokyo’ Sexwale.
The candidates not attending are Shaikh Salman who has commitments with the Asian Football Confederation, and Gianni Infantino who is unable to travel from South America to Brussels in time for the forum.
“Our view on this forum is based around the simple concept that it’s our game,” said #NewFIFANow co-founder, Damian Collins MP.
“Football belongs to people, not just the 209 men and women who make up the FIFA Congress.
“We see this opportunity to hear from the candidates as an important step in greater democracy, transparency and accountability.
“We applaud the candidates for taking part in this ‘first’ for FIFA and appreciate the European Parliament’s hosting of this important event and ESPN’s willingness to show it to the world for the benefit of all fans, players and volunteers involved in the sport.”
The forum will be moderated by ESPN’s Fernando Palomo and journalist and author, John Carlin.
In addition to the live coverage on ESPN platforms around the world, there will be a live webstream of full proceedings inside the Parliament commencing at 1500h CET on Wednesday 27th January.
Viewers should refer to local schedules for broadcast details.
